    Save up for the c4 camera or E4 or E5 is a better option with the added features. C3 shows wall studs and ceiling joists thru drywall due to temp variance.

    tldr: The 165 is great, the 267 is very disappointing.

    I''ve been a huge fan of my TG165 and had it for years for diagnosing stuff around the house, finding wet spots, etc. So, when FLIR introduced the TG267, I decided to get one. I figured I would appreciate the higher resolution, the better thermal sensitivity, etc. and I would give my older one to a friend. Instead, the 267 showed several big disadvantages immediately on use:

    1) The always-on "MSX image enhancement" is completely botched and destroys the usefulness of this device. Unlike their higher end models, they did a crap job with this feature that combines a camera image with the thermal image. Unfortunately, the way they implemented it you can''t tell the difference between high contrast edges in the scene and hot or cold spots, defeating the entire point of a thermal camera. You can "turn it off" by putting tape over the camera, but then you get noise in the image as the camera tries in vain to boost exposure. The painful thing is that fixing this is probably 2 lines of code. Firmware update someday? Maybe, but I''m not holding my breath.

    2) The spot infrared thermometer (not camera) is inexplicably bad. The temperature will jump around 10-20 degrees F second-to-second just looking at a hot pan. Looking at something like the floor it''s jumping around 3-6 degrees. Bizarre. Both the older TG165 and a cheap-o one lock onto the same temp to within a degree instantly.

    3) Big lags. The TG267 freezes its picture for a second or two. All the time. Like every 10 seconds. It''s completely annoying.

    4) Long boot time. The TG267 takes twice as long to startup as the TG265.

    Long story short, this thing is going right back.

I did not have to resort to the user manual to operate it which is very important to me.. Im one of those guys that will read the instructions only if i have to... Easy menus to set date and other parameters... the ceiling shot shows the framing above the ceiling on how the light was mounted and looks. I was able to find hidden heat sources that i was not aware of.. had a shredder in stby mode and it was cool to the touch everywhere but apparently not the case internally there was a spot showing significant heat, same with transformers, some normal some excessive.. $350 bucks is a lot for my budget but well worth it.. I asked FLIR as an entry level which is better for application I was going to use it for FLIR ONE or TG165 and the answer was quick the TG165. Well I have not had any other thermal camera so cant may reference but Im glad I bought it..

You can adjust emissitivity but there is no setting for the temperature range mentioned. You ''can'' measure body temp but it will not be accurate nor consistent.
    2. This is a good (and fun) camera. I''ve been "ghost hunting" all over the house with the grandkids. With some planning, you can leave heat signatures behind and then "find" them later, spooking everyone. I seem to have odd hand prints on the wall and people sitting in chairs when nobody is there. Oooooo, scary.
    3. It can detect animals in the dark. From about 30'' I picked up a rabbit in my back yard. The best night setting seems to be arctic or black hot for this.
    4. It has good detail and lets you see what your looking at from a reasonable distance. Of course there is no zoom so this will work well for looking at a breaker box but the little rabbit I mentioned earlier was just a little dot. In my breaker box I could see how much energy my two water heaters were drawing. Yikes!
    5. Being able to blue tooth the picture to the phone is great. You can use the software to prepare a report and send to a customer (or whomever) or take a pic of your overheating AC system and send it to your HVAC guy. Wonderful.
    6. You can check for air leaks, cold and hot spots and window efficiency. You can see water lines though walls, check coils on freezers and refrigerators, check for blockages on car radiators or condensers and so on. You can even see the inefficiency of your doors. It''s like having X-ray vision!

    Cons:
    I don''t have that many but one seems to stand out. It is laggy. The picture produced is a real-time picture with a thermal overlay and these can misalign easily. Sometimes when moving the device, the picture will move but the thermal will lag and you have to wait for it to catch up. It also washes out easily. If you''re checking the house and come across a light source, which will be amplified through the thermal cam, it will wash out and you have to wait for it to reset.
    I have both the 165 and the 267 and the 267 is the better purchase, even valuable for the casual user like myself.

I bought this, primarily, to find hot spots in my house so I can insulate accordingly. I live in Arizona and have several areas in my home that stay noticeably warmer than others. Right out of the box, I was able to find multiple areas that are uninsulated. In fact, some areas I was actually able to see the studs behind the wall because of the stark temperature difference between outside and my inside temp. The settings are very user friendly, so I was able to customize within a few seconds. I researched this product for a while before taking the plunge and considered cheaper alternatives. However, I think the price was well worth it. I couldn''t imagine getting more of my money''s worth.

    So far I am very pleased, and had the unit up and running in short order. I''ve already verified where insulation was missing around some light fixtures, and interesting hot spot where the ceiling and wall meet... The only issue I''ve noticed is that the image quality is really low resolution. You can resize and upscale them, using some photo software. Flir does have a free software that you can make reports from the photos. The version that would make the photos better, and provide features, is a few hundred dollars.

    I was disappointed with this. Nicely built piece of kit and the accessories all felt decent quality. What you can see is a thermal map, laid over a well-publicised normal image. There''s one measurement, a spot in the middle. For me the normal video did little to improve the image. What I felt was critical was to know what the thermal map meant, apart from ''this bit''s hot and this cold''. The thermal map helps you locate hot spots of course, but because the resolution is limited ( as it is with other devices I appreciate ) and the alignment of the thermal spot camera and the image is not perfect, it is very hard, maybe impossible, to judge the actual temperature. I measured something like 40 deg C but then nearly burnt my finger when investigating the ''good old way''. If I moved the camera around and I could obtain a reading that seemed to be representative but that''s not really what I was expecting from nearly £500 worth of kit. This might be of use in the case illustrated of something at a distance using the LASER as a guide but for the smaller areas - I will generally use it on a circuit board - I found it wanting. I bought a much cheaper device, not as well built by any means, but it has a max and min temperature within the thermal map plus a spot temperature which works much better for me.     I bought this to do some science in the testing of a project I am working on. It is also useful for various DIY tasks such as seeing where joists are behind plasterboard and seeing where drafts are coming from (e.g. where a door seal may need replacing). It will even clearly show you whether a device is on and in standby, rather than completely switched off. Even low power devices raise the temperature enough such that they glow clearly against the background! Do not be fooled by superficially similar devices that might be cheaper. This shows you the visible edges of things in the field of view, to help identify where you are pointing at. Most other devices of this type just show you a blurry field of colours, and it is hard to pinpoint what you are lookng at (measuring from). Oh, and I almost forgot: this device has a rubberised outer case, and really feels rugged.

    Wie schon von einigen Rezensenten beschrieben, muss man mit so einer Kamera umgehen können. Die Auflösung ist recht grob, das ist dem Preis geschuldet. Ich benutze diese Kamera, um Gebäudeisolationen und Fenster zu überprüfen. Man muss ein bisschen Bescheid wissen. Z.B. sollte man kein Stück klaren Himmel im Bildausschnitt haben. Der Himmel hat kaum bzw. keine Infraroteinstrahlung (ausser die Sonne selbst), und wirkt daher immer als sehr kalte Stelle. Das führt dazu, dass der Rest des Bildes in orange-Rot-Töne getaucht wird, auch kalte Fassaden im Winter. Das Kamerabild liefert nur brauchbare Werte und Informationen im differenziellen Vergleich. Man wird bspw. bei einem Fassadenbild leicht erkennen, wenn eine Heizung hinter einer schlecht isolierten Wand sitzt. Oder wenn ein Fenster nicht dicht ist und auf diese Weise warme Luft austritt und den Fensterrahmen dadurch von aussen wärmt. Man kann gut isolierte Fenster von schlecht isolierten Fenstern unterscheiden. Auch Innenaufnahmen bringen Erkenntnisse, Kältebrücken bspw. Wobei hier einfaches Anfassen von Oberflächen natürlich gleich die selbe Erkenntnis bringt, nicht für alles braucht man solche Messgeräte, oft hilft der gesunde Menschenverstand oder etwas Logik sowie die eigene Hand als Messgerät. Nicht immer ist das Monitorbild sehr brauchbar, es gibt Schwankungen in der Darstellung. Wer hochaufgelöste Fotos zwecks Dokumentation benötigt, ist mit dieser Kamera vermutlich nicht richtig ausgestattet. Allerdings, für mich das Highlight, gibt es ein Fadenkreuz als Messpunkt, und dieses Fadenkreuz liefert eine Temperaturanzeige, mit 1/10-Grad Auflösung. Klar, kann man hier keine hochpräzise Messung erwarten, aber es funktioniert (je nach Oberfläche) erstaunlich gut. Und hier kommt mein Tipp zur sinnvollen Anwendung: Oft gibt es die Möglichkeit von Vergleichsmessungen. Bspw. zwei verputzte Häuser, beide innen geheizt. Vergleichend nimmt man nun Aussentemperaturmessungen an der Fassade vor (oder an Fenstern). Höhere Temperaturmesswerte bedeuten eine schlechtere Isolierung. Messungen sollte man natürlich an kalten Winterabenden vornehmen. Genau für diesen Einsatzzweck finde ich die Kamera prima. Ich bekomme aussagekräftige Informationen zur Qualität von Fenstern oder Fassadendämmungen hinsichtlich der Wärmeisolierung. Ich bin sehr zufrieden. Hilfreich auch zwei Laserpointer, mit denen man nachts den Messpunkt anvisieren kann. Der Messpunkt liegt in der Mitte zwischen den beiden roten Punkten. Als Fieberthermometer natürlich ungeeignet.
